Sometimes referred to as a mission work permit, a mission visa is a 90 day visa that allows foreigners to come to Dubai to work for a short period of time.
The mission visa is valid for up to 60 days before the applicant’s entry into the UAE, allowing the visa holder to stay and work here for up to 90 days after arrival.
It is renewable once for another period of 90 days, after which, the applicant either has to exit the UAE, or convert the mission visa into a residence visa.
As the mission visa is only valid for 90 days – and extendable for another 90 days – this can work well for visitors who want to work in Dubai for a short period of time, or who are on probation with a new company before being granted a permanent position.
Unlike a residence visa, which is perhaps better for workers who want to settle in Dubai for a few years at a time, the mission visa works well in the short-term, and is typically used to facilitate short-term contractual obligations in relation to a project.
The mission visa is granted and issued subject to the approval of the Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation. It must be applied for by the sponsoring company seeking to bring the foreign worker into Dubai, by making the application to the Ministry of Labour.
To apply for a mission visa, some of the documentation required includes:
It’s also worth noting that to obtain a mission visa, the applicant must undertake a medical examination.
